I love that you mentioned Rosamunde Pilcher, Annie. I had her books listed in my notes for this post and am not quite sure why I didn't include her. Whenever I read The Shell Seekers I want to move back to the countryside and spend more time gardening or visiting the beach... and rereading Winter Solstice is one of my favourite December traditions. So cosy!
There’s a book called Rosamunde Pilcher’s Christmas (or something like that), a lifestyle book about how she and her family celebrated Christmas, and it puts me in the cosy holiday spirit every year.
This is such an inspiring post! I am definitely going to look up your recommendations. I think The Moomins might be a glaring absence in my childhood reading, for I too enjoy a coffee before doing most things 🤣
Thank you, Jenny! I think I might enjoy the Moomin books even more as an adult, at least in part because of all the coffee breaks mentioned 😁 Finn Family Moomintroll or Moominsummer Madness are lovely places to start!
Prodigal Summer - it's the only novel I've read six times. So much of what you say feels like you've stepped inside my head and pulled on threads of half formed or unexpressed thoughts. It's a remarkable thing to feel resonance so deeply. Thank you. There's a wonderful feeling to your writing.
This was just so beautiful. I often read books just to get to the end, rather than to slow down and savour. Thank you for the lovely reminder! (I've also just added way too many books to my bookshelf...) x
I ate lots of cheese and pickle sandwiches while reading British mysteries before I found out their pickle isn’t the same as our pickles! No matter, I still love them!
Delightful piece. I think this is the year to finally pull Prodigal Summer down from the shelf. Right after the Becky Chambers books I have loaned from the library.
What a lovely post to read on a quiet Sunday morning 😊 I have added a couple of titles to my Good Reads - thank you for the suggestions!
Thank you for the kind comment, Kathryn! I hope you enjoy them :)
Thank you I am going to try a couple you suggested
That's lovely to hear :) Happy reading, Katie!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful…it’s my ritual too and has been for years …
So happy to hear this, Win!
What a beautiful piece to read with a cup of tea! Thank you ✨
Tea is always a good idea! Thank you, Kaz 😊
Thank you! I stumbled across your post on my feed and what a delight it was to read 💕. And now— a longer TBR list!
That's so lovely to hear, thank you Cindy! Hope you enjoy the books :)
Rosamunde Pilcher’s novels and stories feel like this too.

I requested copies of all these books from my library 😍
Yay! Hope you enjoy them, Carmel :)
Love this 😍
what a delight to read this during my morning ritual of coffee and letting my toddler wreak havoc in the kitchen. eep! 🧡
Haha I love this. Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
